Founder & Director, Spanish Society
Georgina Palencia is a linguist, cultural strategist, and theater director based in Houston. She is the founder of Spanish Society, a contemporary cultural and linguistic institution dedicated to Spanish language, culture, and community, where language learning intersects with leadership communication, cultural dialogue, and artistic expression.
Originally from Venezuela, Palencia developed her career at the intersection of linguistics, higher education, and cultural leadership. Before migrating to the United States, she served as a university professor and cultural program director at the Universidad del Zulia, where she led initiatives that integrated language studies, semiotics, theater, and community engagement.
In Houston, she has continued this interdisciplinary work through both education and the performing arts. She teaches Spanish at Lone Star College and directs Teatro Loft, a nonprofit theater company dedicated to Spanish-language theater and cultural dialogue in the city.
Through Spanish Society, Palencia is developing a new model for Spanish language learning—one that moves beyond transactional language instruction to cultivate intellectual bilingualism, cultural literacy, and community belonging. The institution brings together professionals, artists, and learners who seek not only to study Spanish, but to participate in a living cultural ecosystem where language, culture, and human connection converge.
Her leadership combines academic rigor, artistic practice, and institution-building, positioning Spanish Society as an emerging cultural reference point in Houston’s growing bilingual landscape.
